Lottie and the Allendale Rural Arts team travel to Tamaqua, Pennsylvania to learn from town leaders how they turned their town around after an economic slump.
Lottie and her team spent several days in Tamaqua meeting with the mayor and other town leaders to learn about the things they had done. The project was sponsored by a grant from the South Carolina Arts Commission. Lottie came back to Allendale with great ideas, many of which have since been implemented.
Free Health Services Come to Allendale
Dr. Youlanda Gibbs of Charleston founded Palmetto Palace in 2006 to help underserved individuals and families in South Carolina. Through extensive fundraising and community support, Dr. Gibbs created a mobile unit that could travel from town to town in the low country. In its first trip to Allendale, it made the News on Augusta's WFXG TV. In 2020 and 2021, The mobile health unit played a big role in Allendale helping people get vaccinated for Covid-19. Lottie is on the Palmetto Palace board.
In December of a difficult year, the town came together to perform a Christmas Pagent on Freedom Stage.
